MTSU BOOK AND PRINTING ARTS AND HISTORY

The MTSU Department of Art and Design has excellent facilities for teaching books arts, letterpress, and printing, as well as the history of the book and print culture. This blog will highlight aspects of our program and also book events and collections from around middle Tennessee.

The Department of Art and Design at middle Tennessee State University offers a number of degrees by means of which students can explore the art and history of books and printing. We offer a BFA in studio art, a BA or BS in Art, with concentrations in art practice or art history.

MTSU DEPARTMENT OF ART AND DESIGN, BOOK ARTS AND PRINTING FACULTY

Art majors and minors can take classes in Book Arts and Letterpress taught by Kathleen O’Connell. She teaches letterpress, paper making, and book arts, including binding techniques, pop-up structures, and deluxe box making.

Nick Satinover teaches silkscreen, intaglio, relief, lithography, and monotype printing techniques.

Laura Cochrane teaches the history of the book and medieval manuscript illustration.

Kyle Stoneman teaches modern art, the history of book, illustration and design history.
